Is anyone else experiencing strange tastes unrelated to what they are actually eating?

A few of times recently I've noticed a smokey aroma from coffee. Tonight I was having a peanut butter sandwich & suddenly had a taste of cinnamon. There was no cinnamon anywhere near me.

    I have found that lots of food tastes different to what it did before. My partner made a curry the other night and I had to ask him if he added extra spice cos it was really spicy, also I think green tea tastes like ciggies although that could quite possibly be my crazy brain. Can't say I have experienced what you have though...very unusual ?!?

    Hi Bruce,

    I know that coffee tastes a bit weird since I gave up, but apart from that food tastes a lot better.

    I wouldn't worry about it though - it could be a side effect of champix.

    Hmmm, green tea & ciggies. If you're a regular green tea drinker, that's much like my getting a smokey smell in my coffee.

    I've noticed that Circus Circus' coffee tastes a bit stronger than previously, but Wifi Wifie also noticed that so I figured it was real. I still like about the same amount of chilli-in-oil on my crispy pork.

    I think I'll blame it on the Champix.

    Thanks aimee & Axl

    Love the title ! That's a very cool word to add to my vocabulary. I don't know what is causing it but i find the subject fascinating. If it is cos of champix then far out champix you freaky little pharmaceutical. I haven't noticed any strange flavors but i have noticed an array of strange odors emanating from my son

    @fugly I haven't noticed much difference in my food tastes, but some things do have noticably stronger flavours

    @Maanu, I think I invented and simultaneously misspelled the word Pseudosynæsthesia, although the hyphenated form Pseudo-synæsthesia does appear on the web. (Note the ue vs eu in pseudo ... I have no idea why I keep doing that)

    I would love it if someone said something strange about my food and I could tell them "Don't be Pseudosynaesthesiastic" 8-)

    @Maanu That's because it's the 33% of non-smokers who can't do maths that give the other half of us a bad name.

    or, if you prefer

    There's 10 types of people

    * Those that understand ternery

    * Those that don't

    * Those that think this is the binary joke
